‘Risk taking behaviour in young people’ return to homepage
As you are aware, our young people today experience many external influences especially when it comes to risk taking behaviour.
Apsleyeducation feels it is important that any individuals who come into daily contact with these youths should have at least a basic understanding of how
and why these young people have developed the way they have.
Apsleyeducation.com has extensive experience within this sphere of contact and experienced in the field of ‘lifelong learning’ for young people.
This training has subsequently led to the development of a 2 ˝ - 3 hour presentation entitled ‘Young people and Risk taking behaviour’.
Below I have listed the key elements of the above mentioned training session;
Course content:
· Present day trends and traits U.K. Statistics on drug abuse By 11-17 year olds;
· Factors which influence;
· The role of Community
· The role of Schools
· The influences on the Individuals
· The role of the Family
· Suicide – show you care Preventing Young Suicides
· Resilience – another approach to prevention:
· Avoiding the Drama Triangle:
· Listening helps resolve conflict:
· Styling our conversation:
· The language of resilience;
· What helps reduce conflict:;
· Tips for effective conversation;
· Defining motivational interviewing
As you can see the content is extensive in its depth and coverage, however, it is presented using a language that is simple to follow,
very worthwhile to attend and on occasions very entertaining.
What will your volunteers / workers gain and how will it help service delivery?
They will be able to relate to the financial implications and to the impact on health service resources brought about by
risk taking behaviour in teenagers; this presentation will give a wider understanding of the benefits that can come from proper and adequate intervention even at a peripheral level.
There will be an element of drug information, drug trends, drug effects on the individuals and the effect on communities as a whole.
Team /community members will learn about the drama triangle and the importance of its avoidance when dealing with troubled teens
and understand the need for a correct non-threatening approach to issues of risk and the reduction of conflict.
Whilst not designed as a suicide awareness session an element has been incorporated within the presentation addressing
the appropriate intervention steps that you could take when confronted with a potential suicide.
Such skills in todays’ environment are invaluable in building a working relationship with today’s youth and today’s communities.
Finally the session touches on motivational interviewing skills and gives officers an insight into the power of MI when used correctly
…..this is the subject of further training should you require it.
